A botanic garden in your home. Automatization, tricks and difficulies

2 The domestic greenhouse workshop will be based on the story of how I started growing microgreens in the closet. I will share how my path was like and what issues I faced. Moreover, I will tell you about my experience of using the vermicomposter, its advantages and the method of working with it. This lecture will be useful for those who are planning to create their own garden. If you already have one, it will be useful to expand your knowledge of home gardening. You will learn how to optimize time-consuming processes and fight the most common problems such as pests.

Violet colour of reptiloids

7 Colourful lights from the windows in my neighborhood caught my attention and evoked various mysterious associations in me. This motivated me to study the specifics of ultraviolet radiation and, subsequently, to buy my first lamp. I have done a lot of research on growing plants at home, in particular on the effect of additional lighting. Therefore, I would like to share my experience and even show how to make a phytolamp with your own hands.

We propose an inclusive (in regard to species) reading of posthumanist literature with humans and worms, where every participant digests knowledge in their most accessible and effective way. Humans will listen to a narrator, as they’re accustomed to. Worms will receive the literature in their natural medium: soil and compost. They will be provided with books in paper form, and a colony of composting worms will organise gradual philosophical decomposition. Time-lapsed recording of this long process will show how worms successfully decompose even the complex philosophical categories. This recording will constitute an encouraging background for the streamed readings for humans.

Emotional Landscapes of the City

12 Emotional Landscapes of the City: between Scientific Mapping and Artistic Reflection. Emotions are born during interaction between a person and her environment and make up a subjective side of the quality of life. In the rapidly urbanizing world understanding of emotions in the city becomes a considerable task not only for researchers, but also for city managers and artists. In spite of their significance, emotions are subtle, volatile and subjective, and thus difficult to study with “objective” and rational scientific methods. That’s where arts steps in, being yet another mode of reflexivity and knowledge creation. In the presentation contemporary research driven emotion mapping tools are discussed, cases and perspectives for artistic projects on emotions in the city are presented.

Humans and vegetal eroticism: multispecies reading group

16 We are going to the botanical garden to discuss the importance of vegetal sexuality in human culture and plants becoming agents in our sexual culture. Four females will be talking about plant sexuality and dozens of plants will be listening. The reading session will be based on Joela Jacobs’s article “Phytopoetics: Upending the Passive Paradigm with Vegetal Violence and Eroticism”.

Smart urban infrastructures

17 Environments are increasingly becoming technologized sites of data production. From smart cities to smart forests, digital networks are analyzing and joining up environmental processes. This commentary focuses on one such understudied smart environment, smart forests, as emerging digital infrastructures that are materializing to manage and mitigate environmental change. How does the digitalization of forests not only change understandings of these environments but also generate different practices and ontologies for addressing environmental change? I first analyze smart forests within the expanding area of smart environments, and then discuss five digital practices that characterize smart forests. Based on this analysis, I suggest that forests are not only becoming highly digital environments but also that forests are transforming into technologies for managing environmental change. Smart forest interventions therefore expand the scope of what could count as a technology, especially in the context of data-oriented planetary governance.
