About

This video is a journey through animated architecture projects. Some of them were implemented; some stayed purely virtual. The fluid space of the video is based on various iterations of the “Parnik Matyshina” project, which was built in 2018 during the Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum festival. The members of the North-7 collective in their collaborative work usually employ architectural appearances as a starting point for a project. That is why for each of their projects they suggest a variety of graphical representations of the structure of the spaces they work with. After making sketches of the spaces in 3D, the collective starts to work with the actual materials. In this video, the character travels through the imaginary architectural archive of the North-7 collective, where the works of the artists become animated. Living sculptures and performative images, 3D and 2D objects co-exist here, in this schizophrenic space of collaborative artwork.

Bio

North-7 – group of artists emerged from the experimental research base founded in 2013 by the group of friends-graduates from St.Petersburg State Secondary Art School and ProArte Foundation School for Young Artists. The artists investigate national context with no regard to already existing institutional dictates or intellectual trends. North-7 is far self-reliant artistic organism, extracting strong energy from the process of inner relations between community participants. Group participants experiment with different artistic languages and forms while performative practices remain the main activity for the group as they represent essential form of collective involvement in living artistic experience.
