1 In the Middle of Nowhere Square Meter Tales If you walk long and aimlessly through the forest, you can feel how the personal husk is crumbling. The practice of non-thinking helps to take internal informational noise off the table. If you freeze and watch, you can feel a special radio frequency, on which – with interference, of course – transmit forest miracles. Stories, relationship, adventures stretch like cobwebs. I will outline space: a square meter of a fairy tale. Stand and listen.

  The Pot of Basil was conceived as an online project of Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Center during the quarantine, where lies the genesis of its name — The Pot of Basil is an homage to one of the novels from Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio. Just like the isolated young men and women in a villa — The Pot of Basil, on the first glance, is simply an attempt to entertain oneself, a medicine from the acedia in the face of the last days.

5 The project explores the idea of ​​self-sufficiency of information, the possibility of its growth, flowering and dying. Parts of plants from the garden next to the gallery are used as prototypes. In the process of life, plants lose parts of their body – leaves, branches, stems, etc. A person studies these fragments and through this study gives them new life.

6 It is a free space for the interaction between people and five Chudo-polyana’s inhabitants: Valeriana dioica, Sesleria caerulea, Ajuga reptans, Сirsium rivulare, and Primula elatior. Plants integrate into the gallery space, become residents, cease to be the Red Data Book’s representatives, and interact with the visitors, who can choose the mode of interconnection: observation, self-removal, tactile contact, verbal appeal, expansive actions, chilling etc.

8 Global environmental deprivation, a phenomenon arose as a result of a pandemic, where individuals found themselves in a situation of prolonged isolation and monotonous everyday life, where their proper space is no longer associated with the outside. It has led to a violation of the normal mental spatial-time coordinates. Torn out of the usual “external-internal” balance, out of the spatial-social context, the places of staying turned into hospital wards, into spaceships, lockdown defective ecosystems, unusual for existence.

9 This video is a journey through animated architecture projects. Some of them were implemented; some stayed purely virtual. The fluid space of the video is based on various iterations of the “Parnik Matyshina” project, which was built in 2018 during the Contemporary Art in the Traditional Museum festival.

10 “Short glimpse through the curtain” is the aided look through the window curtainhiding the last reminder of the physical world left outside the screen during quarantine, the video documentation of the element of self-similar set of self- isolation as survival strategy.
